Luxury Brand Gucci Plans to ‘Embed Culture Diversity’ As A Result of Blackface Controversy
In the aftermath of Gucci’s latest controversy, the luxury brand is attempting to rectify the situation.
As previously reported, notable artist and celebrities, including rapper T.I. suggested that black people boycott the brand. T.I. wrote on social media,
“We ALL GOTTA stop buying, wearing, and supporting this piece of sh*t company and ALL PIECE OF SH*T COMPANIES UNTIL THEY LEARN TO RESPECT OUR DOLLAR & VALUE OUR BUSINESS.”
He later shared his “call to action” plan for his boycott.

The president and current CEO of Gucci, Marco Bizzarri, released a statement in light of the controversy mentioning the brand is taking “full accountability for this incident.”
“We accept full accountability for this incident, which has exposed shortfalls in our ongoing strategic approach to embedding diversity and inclusion in both our organization and in our activities.”
Bizzarri continued, giving his appreciation to Dapper Dan, a Harlem designer who collaborated with the label to address a new plan of action.
“I am particularly grateful to Dadder Dan for the role he has played in bring community leaders together to offer us their counsel at this time.”
The actions include, hiring global and regional directors for diversity and inclusion, multi-cultural design scholarship programs, diversity and exclusivity awareness program, and global exchange programs.
