Jeannie Mai Awarded 2019 Pioneer Woman of the Year In L.A. For Her Fight Against Sex Trafficking
Congrats are in order for Jeannie Mai! The Real co-host was named the 2019 Pioneer Woman of the Year at Los Angeles City Hall Friday. Councilwoman Nury Martinez for L.A.’s 6th District awarded Mai with the honor. The daytime talk show showed love for Mai on its Instagram page.

“Our girl Jeannie Mai is being honored today at Los Angeles City Hall as the 2019 Pioneer Woman of the Year for her tireless work to stop human trafficking! We are so proud!! A big congrats, HUNNAAAYYYY!”
The ceremony took place Friday morning at Los Angeles City Hall’s John Ferraro Council Chambers. Mai has been fighting against sex trafficking, including taking on an executive producer role for the movie, Stopping Traffic.
She opened up about the film on The Real after the film premiered last year.
“I think the part that was emotional you guys is that we all stood together for freedom. That was the thing I saw when I laid my head in bed.”
She explained how 46 million people are involved in modern-day slavery, and the film included male and female stories, such as a former trafficker’s confessional. She added that she worked with monks from the Sediathan Church to help the story. She even said despite her anxiety, she had to step out of her comfort zone and ask for help and “believe that people want to be a part of a greater change.”
