Maya Angelou Tells Girl To Call Her ‘Ms. Angelou’ In Old TV Appearance – You Have No License To Call Me By My 1st Name [VIDEO]
Maya Angelou told a girl to put some respect on her name in an old video and the public is just now catching wind of it. In the clip that has gone viral, a young woman (who appears to be a teen) has a question for Angelou during her appearance on a show. She asks,
“I wanted to ask Maya her views on interracial relationships.”
Angelou quickly responded, instructing her on the proper way to address her. She says,
“Oh thank you, and first I’m Ms. Angelou. I’m not Maya. I’m 62-years-old. I have lived so long and tried so hard that a woman like you, or any other… you have no license to come up to me and call me by my first name. Also because at the same time I’m your mother, I am your auntie, I’m your teacher, I’m your professor. You see?”
She later apologized for being short, saying that it caught her off guard, especially because the girl was so young.
Check out some of the latest reactions to the video.
