Queen Latifah To Star In And Executive Produce Teen Comedy ‘Paper Chase’
Queen Latifah continues to cement herself as one of the busiest women in Hollywood. Not only does she have a starring role on the hit FOX musical drama Star, she’s also producing the upcoming biopic about hip hop legends Salt-N-Pepa. Now, she’s set to step in front of the camera and behind it, starring and producing a forthcoming teen comedy.
Fans are going to have to wait a bit longer for the highly-anticipated sequel to Queen Latifah’s box office hit, Girls Trip because it’s just been announced she’s attached to star in a new film. However, as is protocol for the Academy Award-nominated actress, she is also set to executive produce the film through her Flavor Unit production company with partner Shakim Compere.
Titled Paper Chase, the teen comedy centers on Alicia, an idealistic New Orleans teen who’s ready to reinvent herself as she heads to college in Atlanta. When Alicia finds that she can’t pay her tuition, she and her cash-strapped mom, Valerie, must come up with a way to get the money she needs. With help from her best friend Jamilla, Alicia plans to throw the ultimate party in hopes to raise the money to keep her college dream alive.
Speaking about the new project, Latifah expressed her excitement, saying:
“Shakim and I have known Van forever and we’re thrilled to collaborate with him and his team. This film is exactly what we love to do, make fun and energetic projects that audiences have a blast going to see. Lauren Domino and Angela Tucker are such great talents and we can’t wait to get started.”
The project is still in its early stages, so no casting or filming details are available at press time. In the meantime, you can catch Queen Latifah every week on Star, airing Wednesday nights at 9PM following Empire.
