Bill Cosby Settles Defamation Lawsuit Claims Brought On By Seven Women
Although he is currently serving time for past allegations of sexual assault, legendary actor/comedian/producer Bill Cosby still had some legal issues on the outside that were moving forward—until now. It’s being reported that a hefty defamation lawsuit against Cosby has officially been settled.
According to reports, Cosby recently made an undisclosed deal to satisfy the women (one of whom is now dead), who were initially suing him for defamation. In Massachusetts, the seven women told a federal judge this week that they are now satisfied by the settlement from Cosby to resolve their claims of being defamed. They claim they were victims of defamation when the iconic TV star denied their stories of being sexually assaulted by him.

Tamara Green, Therese Serignese, Linda Traitz, Barbara Bowman, Joan Tarshis, Louisa Moritz and Angela Leslie were part of the lawsuit originally dating back to 2014. In the lawsuit, they all claimed their reputations were permanently tarnished when Cosby‘s representatives spoke to news outlets, telling them that their rape claims were “fabricated,” “ridiculous” and “absurd,” in addition to other defamatory statements.
However, this doesn’t mean that the case is over as far as Cosby is concerned. He’s still pursuing the women for allegedly defaming him and interfering with his deals with NBC and Netflix and has filed a counterclaim against them.
Joseph Cammarata, who represents the women, is prepared to go head-to-head with Cosby’s legal team regarding the counterclaim. He recently told the judge in the case that if the stay of the case is lifted, he will move forward with bringing a summary judgment motion that Cosby can’t demonstrate actual malice by Serignese. He will also insist that Cosby‘s other claims and request for punitive damages will fail, and that the tortious interference claims are duplicative of defamation.
