Hurricane Irene Hits The East Coast, Celebs Tweet Concern

Hurricane Irene hit Maryland and Virginia yesterday evening and then headed up to New Jersey by 5:30 am. MSNBC confirmed that it has caused 10 deaths, and more than 3 million power outages across 9 states. Virginia had the worst of the wind gusts in the North, with up to 100mph winds and 6 to 10 inches of rain. But the storm has rapidly weakened over the night and is now being called just a Tropical Storm. Connecticut, Vermont, Maine, and Upstate New York are still in danger. DC only had 3.5 inches of rain. According to the Emergency Management Director, there has been minimal flooding in the district, 200 fallen trees and 29,000 homes without power. New Jersey had half a million people without power, while Connecticut had 267,000. New York received the worst of their wind and flooding at 10am this morning. By now they have had 400,000 power outages. Hopefully Irene will continue to die down and not cause any more fatal incidents.
