Fabolous – Georgetown University Cancels His Performance Because Of His History With Domestic Violence

Fabolous’ Performance Canceled At Georgetown University Over Domestic Violence
An upcoming performance by Fabolous has been axed by a Washington, DC university. Georgetown University student activists caused a major uproar about Fabolous performing at the school’s Hoya Madness event, causing the university to pull the invite. A number of students took issue with Fabolous’s history with domestic violence. The rapper was charged last year after an incident between him and his longtime girlfriend Emily B surfaced.

Fabolous, Emily B
He was accused of assaulting Emily B, hitting her multiple times and knocking out two of her teeth.
Fabolous pleaded guilty to harassing Emily B and her dad and charges were ultimately dropped on the condition that he enrolled in a pretrial intervention program and kept up his good behavior. He didn’t have to take part in therapy or anger management in the deal.
He and Emily B are still going strong, but that wasn’t enough for some students to accept him coming to their school.
The university announced Fabolous’s appearance Sunday (Oct. 6), and students launched a petition in response.
“We strongly urge Georgetown to reconsider the message it sends students in booking an act who has a history of domestic violence. Georgetown Athletics, cancel Fabolous’ performance to condemn his past behavior and maintain the Hoya family as a welcoming and safe space for all.”
The athletics unit responded and confirmed they canceled Fabolous’s performance. The Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Lee Reed, said:
“After engaging with students, we have canceled the musical act for 2019 Hoya Madness. We take domestic violence very seriously and were unaware of the charges against the entertainer when he was booked through a third party entity.”
The pep band, who is also performing for the event, backed the cancelation. The band’s President Elise Dumont said,
“The Georgetown Pep Band fully supports Athletics’ decision to disinvite Fabolous, and is looking forward to supporting our wonderful student-athletes at Hoya Madness in anticipation of the 2019-20 basketball season.”
