Boston Celtics Star Jaylen Brown Reportedly Agrees To 4-Year/$115 Million Extension

Jackpot! The Boston Celtics have reportedly come to terms with star shooting guard, Jaylen Brown on Monday (Oct. 21st) less than a week after declining the franchise’s first offer. According to reports, Brown, 22, agreed to a huge payday signing onto a 4-year, $115 million contract extension.

The Celtics first offer Brown less than $100 million on Wednesday (Oct. 16th). The first round 2016 draft pick declined because he felt there should be much bigger deal on the table for his talents, according to reports.

”Brown, who can become a restricted free agent next summer, declined the offer because he ‘believes in his ability to one day be a star and is pursuing a bigger offer.

This past offseason, Brown recently hired his first NBA agent Jason Glushon, who assisted Brown in securing the $100+ million deal. The Celtics guard explained his confidence in his ability on the court during a recent interview:

“But to be honest, [extension talks are] really not overwhelming me or ruling my thoughts. I know what type of talent I have. I’m confident in myself. I’m confident in my ability.”

Celtics general manager, Danny Ainge spoke on the negotiation of the deal details. He says,

“Jaylen has made tremendous strides over the last three years and has become a fantastic player for us on both ends of the court. He’s a great person and hard worker who, at 22 years old, can score and defend against the best players in the NBA. Jaylen is a true professional who did a great job accepting his role last season, and he is a major part of our championship goals.”

As previously reported, Brown neared the end of his rookie contract with the Celtics. Although, Boston had the security to match any offer Brown received in his restricted free agency in July of 2020.

Brown, the No. 3 overall pick out of California, has steadily developed into one of the league’s top young forwards. He’s averaged 11.2 points in three NBA seasons, including 13.9 in last year’s playoffs and 18 points a game in 18 playoff games in the 2017-18 postseason
