ASAP Rocky: Despite Sweden Denying Me Access To Donate & Perform For Inmates, I Still Want To Help Immigrants & Poor People
Rapper ASAP Rocky took to Twitter on Monday (Dec. 9th), breaking his silence following being denied his request to perform for the Swedish prison where he was held until his conviction of assault in a June street brawl in Stockholm. In response, ASAP wrote a lengthy statement pledging to continue his movement in honor of those who helped him through his troubling time behind bars. He begins,
“EVEN WHEN IM DENIED ACCESS TO DONATE OR PERFORM FOR THE INMATES IN SWEDEN I STILL WANT TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR THE IMMIGRANTS AND POOR PPL OF OUTSIDE SURROUNDING AREAS.”

He continues,
“THIS HAS BEEN A DIFFICULT JOURNEY , BUT I FEEL ITS MY TASK TO GIVE BACK TO PPL WHO SUPPORTED ME WHEN I WAS DOWN.”
In a recent interview, ASAP touched on his connection with his ex-fellow inmates,
“When I was going through my whole situation, the whole time I used to look on television and see Swedish fans showing me so much love and I want to give it back… Most of the proceeds [from performances in Sweden] will go to inmates and prison reformation.”

As previously reported, Asap was jailed after footage of him fighting a man, Mustafa Jafari, 19, in Sweden surfaced in July. He pleaded not guilty and insisted he was acting in self-defense. Jafari was not charged or jailed. In mid August, ASAP was handed a guilty verdict. Soon after he took to social media reacting to the news. He wrote:
“I AM OF COURSE DISAPPOINTED BY TODAY’S VERDICT. I WANT TO SAY THANKS AGAIN TO ALL OF MY FANS, FRIENDS, AND EVERYONE WHO SHOWED ME LOVE DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME. IMMA KEEP MOVING FORWARD. THANK YOU TO MY TEAM, MY MANAGEMENT, ATTORNEYS, LABEL AND EVERYONE WHO ADVOCATED FOR JUSTICE.”
