Juice WRLD — Late Rapper Still Facing $15 Million Lawsuit Over ‘Lucid Dreams’
The mantra, “More money, more problems” seems to ring true – even in the afterlife! Rapper Juice WRLD, who tragically succumbed to a fatal seizure earlier this month, still has a lawsuit on his hands over his 2018 hit, “Lucid Dreams.” According to reports, early 2000s rock band, Yellowcard, has decided to continue its lawsuit against the rapper’s estate, despite his passing. The hefty $15 million copyright infringement suit alleges that Juice WRLD (real name, Jarad Higgins) stole the melody to their 2006 song, “Holly Wood Died,” for “Lucid Dreams.”
Yellowcard members — Peter Mosley, Ryan Key, Sean Wellman-Mackin and Longineu Parson — reportedly put the already pending lawsuit on hold in the past couple of weeks to “digest” the 21-year-old’s sudden death. But, in the wake of the song’s return to the Billboard Top 10, they’ve recently decided to move forward with the suit. The deadline for his estate to respond has officially been extended. The original deadline was December 12th, but Juice WRLD passed on December 8th. The extension was recently approved for February 4, 2020.
The fate of the lawsuit relies on proving whether or not Juice even knew Yellowcard or “Holly Wood Died” existed. The young rapper was 7-years-old at the time of the song’s 2006 release. Digital Music News alleges this fact about the group’s popularity:
“Yellowcard was relatively well-known among ’emo-screamo’ fans at its peak, but nowhere near a household name.”
Should Yellowcard’s lawsuit against Juice WRLD continue considering his recent death? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
