Nipsey Hussle Inspires The Marathon Book Club
Nipsey Hussle’s mark in the music industry isn’t the only part of his legacy getting recognized. The late rapper and activist’s love for books is also getting a salute in his hometown of Los Angeles and around the nation.
The Marathon Book Club has multiple chapters that launched shortly after Nipsey Hussle was gunned down just outside of his The Marathon store in Crenshaw last year.
The book club came after a fan from Wisconsin put together a list of all the books Nipsey Hussle had mentioned in his interviews. The list was released just a couple of weeks after he died.

Now, nearly 80 members make up the four chapters of The Marathon Book Club in Oakland, Washington, D.C., New York and of course L.A.
Members range from business owners to those in corporate America and investment bankers. One former athlete also attends the book club regularly, but their professional careers are put to the side as the members unite to read the literature.
One of the recent books “The Spook Who Sat by the Door,” was one that Nipsey told The Breakfast Club would serve as inspiration for his next album.
His most recent album The Victory Lap was nominated for the Best Rap Album Grammy in 2019.
