Jillian Michaels Criticizes Lizzo’s Weight On National Television, Defends Her Statement: There Are Serious Health Consequences That Come w/ Obesity
Singer Lizzo‘s body positivity is 100% a bad idea according to fitness guru Jillian Michaels. In an interview with Buzzfeed News’ “AM to DM” show, Jillian Michaels called the chart-topping singer “overweight,” while dismissing Lizzo’s message as being susceptible to diabetes. Jillian said:
“I love her music, 100%. I don’t know anything about her personally. I’m sure she’s a cool, awesome chick…but why are we celebrating her body? Why does it matter? That’s what I’m saying. Like, why aren’t we celebrating her music? ‘Cause it isn’t gonna be awesome if she gets diabetes.”

“I’m just being honest. Like, I love her music. My kid loves her music. But there’s never a moment where I’m like, ‘I’m so glad she’s overweight!’ Why do I even care? Why is it my job to care about her weight?”
The longtime television trainer immediately received social media backlash for her criticism.
Jillian Michaels, later, responded with this unapologetic statement about her comments:
“As I’ve stated repeatedly, we are all beautiful, worthy, and equally deserving. I also feel strongly that we love ourselves enough to acknowledge there are serious health consequences that come with obesity – heart disease, diabetes, cancer to name only a few. I would never wish these for ANYONE and I would hope we prioritize our health because we LOVE ourselves and our bodies.”
Lizzo has not responded. What do you think about Jillian Michael’s comments?
