Waka Flocka Urges Hollywood Filmmakers To Release Positive Black Movies: “Not Just Superheroes & Running From Slave Masters”

Rapper Waka Flocka Flame (real name Juaquin James Malphurs), 33, is calling on film leaders in Hollywood to push past the stereotypical storytelling when it comes to roles for black actors. On Tuesday (March 10) the “Hard in Da Paint,” rapper sent a message to filmmakers via Instagram, urging them to inspire more positive black films in 2020. Waka Flocka wrote,

“Dear Hollywood can we get more positive Black movies this year and not just superhero’s and running from slave masters. Thank you from the community.”

His message appeared to be a follow-up of a post he shared earlier that day to promote The Banker, which was released Friday (March 6) and starred Anthony Mackie and Samuel L. Jackson.

The movie is set in the 1960s as two African-American entrepreneurs hire a working-class white man to pretend to be the head of their business empire while they pose as a janitor and chauffeur. This film also stars actress Nia Long, Jessie T. Usher, and Gregory Alan Williams.

The Atlanta rapper continued his stance that films like ‘The Bank,’ which he claims was given little to no promotion for release, should be the standard of black Hollywood should look as.

theJasmineBRAND previously broke the story that Waka Flocka will be starring in the upcoming film True To the Game 2.   Tamar Braxton, Juju Casteneda, Rotimi, and Jeremy Meeks will also star in the film.

The original film was a drama and thriller directed by Preston A. Whitmore II, executive produced by Manny Halley and starred Columbus Short, Erica Peeples, Andra Fuller, Vivica A. Fox, Nelsan Ellis, and Jennifer Freeman. It was based on Teri Woods’ novel of the same name.
