Michael Jordan’s Father’s Murderer Up For Parole
Michael Jordan’s Father’s Murderer Up For Parole
One of the men convicted of the murder of Michael Jordan’s father may see life outside of prison walls.
James Jordan, Sr., father of the NBA icon, was shot to death in July of 1993 at a North Carolina rest stop. He sleeping in his car, with his body recovered in South Carolina 11 days later. Two men – Larry Demery and Daniel Andre Green – were arrested for Mr. Jordan’s murder, and received life sentences for first-degree murder and armed robbery, according to reports.
Larry Demery, 44, is being considered for parole by the North Carolina Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission under guidelines of the Mutual Agreement Parole Program (MAPP). According to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, this is the function of the program:
“The MAPP is designed to prepare selected inmates for release through structured activities, scheduled progression in custody levels, participation in community based programs and established parole dates.”
Michael Jordan affectionately called his father, “Pops,” and when Oprah Winfrey asked if he wanted to know the reason Larry and Daniel targeted him, he replied:
“I’m a very optimistic person in the sense that I don’t look at the real bad part of it. I looked at it that no matter what happened to my father, he’s not here…I don’t want to know. Because it probably would hurt me even more just to know their reasons. Because if it is, it’s going to be totally meaningless for the reasons…It’s better that I don’t know.”
It is unclear whether or not Daniel Andre Green will be eligible for the same parole program.
