In Loving Memory :: Sylvia Robinson

76-year-old Sylvia Rone, who was affectionately referred to as the “mother of hip-hop”, has died. She passed on Thursday, in New Jersey, of congestive heart failure. Robinson was known as one of hip-hop’s early founders. She, along with her husband, Joe Robinson, was the owner of Sugar Hill Records. Sugar Hill Records put out the popular hit, “Rapper’s Delight,” in 1979. She is survived by three sons and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
