Erykah Badu Starts Her Own Livestream Platform
The COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting quarantine has created major hardships around the world. While the deadly virus has imposed a literal shutdown of the live-entertainment industry, the legendary Erykah Badu has found a creative way to deal with the impact. Erykah Badu was under pressure because she was used to touring eight months out of the year. Her elaborate solution, the “Quarantine Concert Series,” streams live from her Dallas home.

Meanwhile, within ten days of her tour being postponed the ‘Bag Lady’ singer hired a back-end livestream company and a paywall service, figured out how to broadcast from her home, gathered musicians, engineers, and technicians so she could stream out to the world. Launched late last month, Erykah Badu charges viewers a small $1-$3 fee, rather than using Instagram Live or YouTube or other conventional avenues. Erykah Badu gave words of advice to fellow entrepreneurs on social media.
“.. if u build it , they will come . If you don’t build it , someone else will. – eb aka 101010.”
Earlier this month, Erykah Badu held a press conference where she spoke about the launch of her streaming platform. The series began with a three-hour concert called “Apocalypse One” then continued with a special show marking the tenth anniversary of her “New Amerykah Part II.” She charged $1 for the first, $2 for the second, and $3 for the third concert.
