R.Kelly Is ‘Overweight’ & ‘Likely Diabetic’ According To His Attorney: He’s Having Panic Attacks & Thinks He’s Going To Die In Pretrial Detention
Singer R. Kelly, who is being held at Chicago’s Metropolitan Correctional Center could possibly have diabetes, his lawyer Steve Greenberg claims. He states,
“I was able to speak to Robert [Kelly] through a specially arranged phone call, and he is now awaiting confirmation he may have diabetes. He has been experiencing panic attacks… [Kelly] is petrified. He is convinced he is going to die while in pretrial detention.”
Steve Greenberg made the comments before he made another bid for R.Kelly’s release on bail to a federal judge in New York, where he also faces criminal charges. The letter laid out his health situation as “likely diabetic” after a test
“reveals that he is 1/10 of one point below diabetic.”

The letter also says that R. Kelly also allegedly suffers from high blood pressure, cholesterol problems and is
“overweight.”
Greenberg blasted officials for not letting R. Kelly know of his condition sooner.
“The test results came back a month ago but the jail withheld that information from him. He is now waiting for confirmation.”
Greenberg has repeatedly called for R. Kelly’s release from the tight quarters of the downtown Chicago prison.
“The conditions they have these people in are inhumane. They are people who have not been convicted of anything and they are sitting in there and just waiting and wondering when they are going to get sick.”
Greenberg says his client has remained in his cell for nearly a month, only venturing out for his weekly phone call.
“At best they [the inmates] are allowed out 15 minutes a day, if they want to be out, but then they have to interact with everyone else.”

“There is no exercise; inmates who are infected are not separated until it is far too late; inmates who are infected are allowed to handle the food and serve others. The disease-ridden shared the same telephones, the same computers, the same showers and toilets as others.”
R. Kelly’s lawyer also mentioned how it’s impossible for their client to practice social distancing while in jail and the MCC has no idea of the rate of actual infection.
“We are treating the accused as if we are a third-world nation It is un-American.”
It was previously reported that Judge Ann M. Donnelly refused to grant Kelly bond for a second time. Again, R. Kelly is deemed a flight risk and the judge anticipates witness tampering if he’s released. In his first motion earlier in April, Judge Donnelly responded:
“The defendant is currently in custody because of the risks that he will flee or attempt to obstruct, threaten or intimidate prospective witnesses. The defendant has not explained how those risks have changed…he does not explain how his surgical history places him at a higher risk of severe illness.”
As for a hearing for R. Kelly’s racketeering case in New York, his July trial has been postponed until September due to the virus.
