Pop Smoke Fans Lash Out Over Album Cover Designed By Virgil Abloh, Late Rapper’s Manager Suggests It’ll Be Changed
Fans of late rapper Pop Smoke (real name, Bashar Jackson) are furious with designer/Louis Vuitton creative director Virgil Abloh. As previously reported, Pop Smoke was tragically killed at his Beverly Hills rental home in February of this year in the midst of finishing his highly anticipated album.
Once the cover art for his Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon album was released, fans were horrified at the final product. The cover, designed by Virgil Abloh, featured Pop’s photo bordered by metal, smoke, and diamonds.
Fans were so disappointed with the artwork that a Change.org petition was created to have it changed before the album’s release date. So far more than 18,000 of its 25,000 person-goal has signed the petition. The creator’s description read:
“Virgil deada** was wild lazy with Pop Smokes Album cover and he needs to fix it.”
Steven Victor, Pop Smoke’s manager before his passing, responded to the controversy with these tweets:
“POP WOULD LISTEN TO HIS FANS!…MAKING A CHANGE…BRB”
He continued:
“HEARD YOU”
Rapper/media mogul 50 Cent, who vowed to executive produce the posthumous project, also chimed in.
Pop Smoke’s posthumous album, “Shoot For the Stars, Aim For the Moon,” will be released on July 3rd.
