Timbaland And Swizz Beatz’s ‘Verzuz’ Partners W/ Apple Music, Offers Free On-Demand Streaming

Super producers Timbaland and Swizz Beatz have just progressed their live-streaming battle series Verzuz forward by partnering with Apple Music.

According to reports, each live battle will now be available for free on Apple Music and Beats 1 and simulcast at the same time that it’s streamed on the Verzuz Instagram account.

Verzuz was first released on March 24, when both producers went head-to-head, showcasing their respective hit songs for their followers on Instagram live during the COVID-19 quarantine.  Individually, their resumes speak for themselves with rosters including names like Beyonce, Aaliyah, Drake, Missy Elliot, DMX, Lil Kim, and many more over their decades-long careers.

With the success of the livestream, Timbaland and Swizz Beatz quickly decided to create Verzuz and began to curate other artists and producers to showcase their music.

In an interview Swizz Beatz stated,

“We don’t really like to use the word ‘battle’ although it’s natural to say ‘battle’ when two people are playing songs with each other.”

He continued on,

“This is more of a celebration, educational celebration, is what we like to call it.”

So far, the 16 battles, or “celebrations” as Swizz Beatz likes to call them, have included the likes of Jill Scott vs. Erykah Badu, Babyface vs. Teddy Riley, and Ludacris vs. Nelly.

On July 22, DMX vs. Snoop Dogg are set to battle streaming live on the Verzuz Instagram account and Apple Music.

Previously, the mega producers stated that they haven’t made a cent off of Verzuz, claiming that millions have been offered.  Swizz stated,

“Tonight represented the authentic zone of why we didn’t sell 50% of the company for millions of dollars, the authentic zone of why we turned down millions and millions of dollars to the vultures, just wanting to put a name next to name, but no respect for what we do.  We haven’t made one cent off of VERZUZ yet. That don’t mean that we not business, but what we have is something that is, we have a museum. VERZUZ is a museum, it’s an educational, celebrational platform.  What Beanie Man and Bounty Killer did tonight, was iconic. They was just gonna leave Beanie Man, and Bounty Killer on the side of the road, and what did VERZUZ do Tim?”

Timbaland also stated previously that they had no plans on selling the platform to a major network in an effort to keep it for the culture.  He said,

“Right now we just want to keep it for the culture because it’s so organic. We don’t want to bring [major networks] in right away. We just wanna keep it where people are entertained because we live in a world where 16 million people lost jobs. We don’t wanna get into all the politics of it, we wanna keep it natural.”
