Vanessa Bryant Releases Kobe Bryant’s Young Adult Book ‘Geese Are Never Swans’: This Book Helped Me Deal W/ Grief
It’s been nearly six months since the death of basketball legend, Kobe Bryant, but his wife, Vanessa Bryant says she’s “proud to continue Kobe’s mission” while announcing the posthumous release of Kobe Bryant’s young adult book, ‘Geese Are Never Swans’.
She took to her Instagram to share the news, stating,
“We’re so proud to continue Kobe’s mission to teach the power of emotion to the next generation of athletes. Kobe’s first YA (young adult) title, #GeeseAreNeverSwans is officially out today.”
The announcement continued,
“The novel focuses on the importance of mental health amongst young athletes and how sports can help overcome some of life’s greatest setbacks.”
While thanking Kobe Bryant’s fans for continuing to support his legacy, Vanessa Bryant expresses,
“(This book also helped me deal with grief) I’m glad we still have his books to help us along the way.”

The young adult novel, created by Kobe and written by Eva Clark, ‘Geese Are Never Swans’ centers around Gus and his dreams of making it to the Olympics as a swimmer, except his brother committed suicide for failing at the same dream, bringing Gus to meet mental health issues face to face.
The book’s description states,
“In this powerful novel about the punishing and the healing nature of sports, Gus’s rage threatens to swallow him at every turn. He’s angry at his brother, his mother, his coach . . . even himself. But as he works toward his goal and through his feelings, Gus does everything he can to channel this burning intensity into excelling at the sport that he and Danny both loved, and finds solace in the same place he must face his demons: in the water.”

The novel’s writer, Eva Clark told People,
“Kobe had that spark, he was a storyteller.”
Eva Clark continued,
“He was so dedicated to understanding stories: ‘What’s our responsibility? How do you tell it to the people in need?'”

Kobe Bryant
Kobe Bryant certainly had a knack for storytelling, evident by his 2018 Oscar award-winning short animated film, Dear Basketball.
