Big Boi To Executive Produce New Crime Series ‘Government Records’
Big Boi has been keeping busy!
He announced that he is the executive producer of a new crime series “Government Records.”
The show is said to be a cross between Fox’s hit series “Empire” and “Get Shorty”, which aired on Epix.
“Government Records” is about two ATF officials who are trying to catch a crime ring overseen by a ’90s Hip Hop star. The agents go undercover as musicians as they team up with the FBI and the Atlanta Police Department to catch the perps.
Big Boi, 45, whose real name is Antwan André Patton, said in a press release:
“I’ve teamed up with Chris DeBlasio at 850 Entertainment on a project called Government Records. It’s going to be big! Can’t wait to get things moving.”
On top of being an executive producer, Big Boi will also appear in the debut season. Other familiar faces include DMX, Salt-N-Pepa rapper Pepa, Rakim, Grandmaster Flash, Big Daddy Kane, and Doug E. Fresh.
Terron R. Parsons, who created the series said:
“This story, although it does fit into the genres of other successful shows, is unique in the way that it brings the worlds of law enforcement, crime and the music industry together – with the task force creating a music studio, building this undercover operation just to bring down one guy. It’s essentially a heist movie, except the federal agents are the ones pulling the job. I don’t think we’ve really seen anything from that perspective before on TV.”
DeBlasio echoed similar sentiments:
“I’ve been looking for a project that would both highlight the city of Atlanta and bring recurring work to the area. When the script first came to me it was actually being developed as a feature film, but the characters and material were so rich that I immediately decided that it needed to be a series to fully cover the scope of the story.”
The show’s team is still looking for a network to call home, but they have secured funding via the DCR Finance Corp.
