A popular Houston nightclub was shut down early Sunday morning (Jan.17) during an all black party hosted by Fabolous and Trey Songz. Spire nightclub was shut down by the fire marshall due to overcrowding at the venue and violating Covid-19 restrictions. Houston Fire Chief, Samuel Pena told local news outlet, ABC 13, that the venue was over capacity:
“If there was an emergency, a fire or something that would have occurred inside, we would have had a massive loss of life because the means of entry. The exits were blocked.”
The venue was hosting an event called “The Black Affair” featured singer Trey Songz and rapper Fabolous, which definitely drew attention to the popular nightclub. According to reports, nearly 200 people were waiting outside of the venue hoping to gain entrance before it was shut down around 1:30 a.m. local time.
Singer, Trey Songz, who tested positive for Covid-19 in October, was seen promoting the event on his Instagram Story Saturday (Jan.16).

The event appeared to be a birthday celebration for New Orleans-based promoter, Larry Morrow. Morrow has already been receiving criticism on social media for hosting several large parties in Houston during the Covid-19 pandemic. Earlier this weekend, Morrow held an event at Clé nightclub which gained major attention on social media after videos surfaced of rapper Bow Wow performing for a packed audience.
