Michael B. Jordan Is Open To Returning For ‘Black Panther 2’: We Created A Family

In the wake of the loss of Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, his on-screen foe and his off-screen friend Michael B. Jordan, is opening up about whether he wants to be a part of the upcoming sequel.

As previously reported, Chadwick Boseman’s character, T’Challa will not be replaced in Black Panther II after the actor passed away in August 2020. He, unfortunately, lost his four-year battle to colon cancer on Aug. 28, 2020.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently explained why Chadwick Boseman’s character won’t be recast:

“I wanted to acknowledge the devastating loss of a dear friend and member of the Marvel Studios family. Chadwick Boseman was an immensely talented actor and an inspirational individual who affected all of our lives professionally and personally. His portrayal of T’Challa the Black Panther is iconic and transcends iteration of the character in any other medium from Marvel’s past.”

He went on to say:

“To honor the legacy that Chad helped us build through his portrayal of the king of Wakanda, we want to continue to explore the world of Wakanda and all of the rich and varied characters introduced in the first film.”

The character also won’t show up in a digital form. Instead, the sequel will focus on the land of Wanda and its people.

While filming is scheduled to start this July, it’s still not clear who will return but Michael B. Jordan said he’s up to it.

He told PEOPLE,

“That’s something that is very, very near and dear to my heart for a lot of obvious reasons.”

He said while the loss of Chadwick Boseman was “devastating”, the magic that was created in the film is one he wouldn’t mind repeating.

“[I] had a really tough year losing somebody close to me. And what that means for that franchise is it was devastating. But being in that world in a character that I loved playing, and working with [writer/director Ryan Coogler] and all that good stuff, it’s family. We created a family over there. So to be able to be in that world again is something that, I think, will always be on the table in some capacity.”
