50 Cent’s ‘The 50th Law’ Book Is Getting A Netflix Series, Kenya Barris To Executive Produce
50 Cent’s book The 50th Law has landed its own Netflix series!
According to Deadline, he’s teaming up with Kenya Barris for a new show that will be based on 50 Cent’s (real name Curtis Jackson) bestselling book, written with Robert Greene.
The book is a loosely-based autobiography on 50 Cent’s life and tells the story of a young hustler who has aspirations in the music industry.
Kenya Barris and Hale Rothstein, who also worked together on Netflix’s blackAF will executive produce with 50 Cent’s G-Unit company and Greene. Lionsgate will also produce under 50 Cent’s overall deal with Starz.
Kenya Barris has lots of projects up his sleeve, as he’ll also be directing the highly anticipated Richard Pryor biopic.
Along with directing the project, which MGM has acquired worldwide rights for, Kenya Barris will also write and produce it via his company Khalabo Ink Society.
Richard Pryor’s widow, Jennifer Lee Pryor, and her company Tarnished Angel will also produce the film with Tory Metzger of Levantine Films. Adam Rosenberg will be the executive producer.
Kenya Barris said in a statement:
“The way Pryor did what he did — with truth and specificity that was somehow self-aware and self-deprecating, and said with an unmatched level of vulnerability — that was the power and impact of his work. Pryor had a voice that was distinctly his and, in many ways, comedy since then has been derivative of what he created. To me, this is a film about that voice, the journey that shaped it, and what it took for it to come to be.”
