Pharrell Williams Reveals That Naomi Campbell Was The Inspiration Behind The 2005 Song ‘Hollaback Girl’
Supermodel Naomi Campbell was the inspiration behind Gwen Stefani’s hit song Hollaback Girl. During the latest episode of Naomi Campbell’s web series, ‘No Filter With Naomi’, music mogul Pharrell Williams shared that the model was the muse behind the 2005 track ‘Hollaback Girl’ that he wrote with Gwen Stefani and Chad Hugo. During their virtual conversation, Pharrell Williams revealed that he once overheard Naomi Campbell use the term “hollaback girl” and that inspired him to write a song around the phrase. He said,
“You told somebody who was like trying to speak to you or whatever you were like ‘’I’m sorry I have a name. Like, I’m not no hollaback girl’’ and I thought that was so amazing and that ended up being the chorus to Hollaback Girl.”
Naomi Campbell seemed shocked to learn that the popular term came from her and jokingly responded,
“’I don’t know who I was talking to, I guess they deserved it.”
