Michelle Obama Reacts To Meghan Markle’s Racism Claims Against Royals: I Hope There Is Forgiveness, I Want The Country To Focus On Big Issues
Michelle Obama has shared her thoughts on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s revealing sit-down with Oprah Winfrey, and said she wants the nation to “focus on big issues.”
During the conversation, which aired earlier this month, the couple accused the palace of racism and said there was even concern about how dark their Archie’s skin would be.

Michelle Obama spoke on the interview while on TODAY. She said,
“Public service is a bright, sharp, hot, spotlight and most people don’t understand it, nor should they. But there are ways to still yourself and protect yourself. The thing that I always keep in mind is that none of this is about us, public service, it’s about the people that we serve. Especially in times like this, I want the country to be focused on the big issues that we face – creating jobs for people who don’t have jobs, feeding people who are going hungry, making sure that people actually take the [COVID-19] vaccine, and understand the importance of continuing to protect ourselves. We are not out of the woods on this issue yet.”
She added,
“I always try to push the light back out and focus it on the folks that we’re actually here to serve.”
When asked about Meghan Markle’s statement that she suffered racism while living in the palace, Michelle Obama continued,
“As I said before, race isn’t a new construct in this world for people of color. It wasn’t a complete surprise to, sort of ,hear her feelings and have them articulated. The thing that I hope for, and the thing that I think about is that this first and foremost is family. I pray for forgiveness and healing for them so they can use this as a teachable moment for us all.”
She added,
Living in a world where there are a lot of interracial families, we’ve gotta learn to live together and support each other and value each other. I think we still have work to do to understand where we all are coming from, and that’s gonna take time. It requires effort and honesty to make that happen.”
