Harvey Weinstein’s Lawyer Says He’s Going Blind Behind Bars, Lost 4 Teeth
Harvey Weinstein’s health is deteriorating as he serves a 23-year sentence for a sexual assault conviction.
The disgraced film exec’s extradition to California, where he’s facing additional charges, was delayed as his team challenged the relocation recently. He is currently in New York.
To justify the delay, one of his lawyers Norman Effman said he has multiple serious health procedures coming up to treat his eyesight and to “save his teeth.”
“He is almost technically blind at this point and in need of surgery … and shots. He’s also had some major dental issues and he has scheduled, as we speak, we don’t know again exactly when, for some dental procedures to save his teeth. He’s lost, I think, four at this point.”
He continued,
“The basic human nature of this case, it seems disruptive to undo what New York State has accomplished in its ability to care for a person, in their custody, and to ensure that he is receiving appropriate medical treatment.”
He added that Harvey Weinstein has no problem being arraigned on the L.A. charges remotely.
Harvey Weinstein was charged with the L.A. incidents in October 2020.
He’s accused of raping one woman at a hotel between September 2004 and September 2005. He’s also accused of raping a second woman twice in November 2009 and November 2010. The charges he’s looking at are three counts of forcible rape and three counts of forced oral copulation.
