Harvey Weinstein Charged W/ 3 More Rapes In California, Facing 6 New Sexual Assault Charges

Although he is currently in prison, Harvey Weinstein is reportedly at the center of more sexual assault-related charges. The District Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles announced Friday that the disgraced film exec had been formally charged with more forced sex assault counts. He’s accused of raping one woman at a hotel between September 2004 and September 2005. He’s also accused of raping a second woman twice in November 2009 and November 2010.

Once a highly sought-after film producer, Harvey Weinstein is currently serving a 23-year prison sentence as a result of the numerous sex crimes convictions handed down in New York.

The latest charges against the 68-year-old are three counts of forcible rape and three counts of forced oral copulation. These charges are from an amended case that was previously filed against him and also include additional ones: one count of sexual penetration by use of force and two counts of sexual battery by restraint. All of these acts were allegedly against five victims between 2004 and 2013. If Harvey Weinstein is convicted of the new charges, he could get a maximum of 140 years in prison.

At this time, prosecutors in Los Angeles are reportedly working to get temporary custody of Weinstein so he can face the charges within their jurisdiction. An extradition hearing is scheduled for Dec. 11 in Buffalo, New York. L.A. County District Attorney Jackie Lacey released a statement and said:

“I am thankful to the first women who reported these crimes and whose courage have given strength to others to come forward. The willingness of these latest victims to testify against a powerful man gives us the additional evidence we need to build a compelling criminal case.”
