Jay-Z Speculated To Be Launching Production Company After Filing Trademark Paperwork
It looks like Jay-Z may be laying the foundation for a production company!
According to TMZ, Jay-Z‘s company S. Carter Enterprises filed paperwork to trademark the name “2/J” last week (Monday, May 3rd). Specifically, the prospective company will deal with “entertainment services in the nature of creation, development, and production.”
While it’s admittedly a bit too early to tell exactly what the “On To The Next One” rapper has in mind for 2/J, it looks like it’ll probably be a television or cinematic production company!
While definitely a surprise to many, Jay-Z‘s decision to start a production company isn’t too far-fetched for the hip-hop mogul. In addition to a highly successful music career, Jay-Z served as a co-producer for the 2014 remake of Annie.
He also served as the executive producer for The Great Gatsby and Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story (released in 2013 and 2018, respectively). Additionally, Jay-Z founded the Roc Nation entertainment agency, started (and recently sold) the Tidal streaming service, launched a cannabis brand, partnered with D’Usse for a limited-edition Cognac, and co-founded the long-running Rocawear clothing company.
As we can see, Jay-Z already wears many different hats professionally–and it looks as though he may be adding another one by starting his own production company!
