Vanessa Bryant Reaches Settlement In Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Helicopter Company & Deceased Pilot’s Estate, Claimed They Were Responsible For Kobe & Gianna Bryant’s Deaths
Vanessa Bryant has emerged victorious in a legal battle against those responsible for the deaths of Kobe & Gianna Bryant, as well as 7 others.
Back in January 2020, Kobe Bryant tragically passed away in a helicopter crash that killed everyone on board–including his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna Bryant, and seven others. The next month, Vanessa Bryant sued the helicopter company–Island Express Helicopters & Island Express Holding Corporation. Additionally, she also filed a lawsuit against the estate of the deceased pilot, Asa Zobayan. Three other families who were affected by the tragedy joined in on the lawsuit, too.
Vanessa Bryant held the company and pilot responsible for the crash on account of Asa Zobayan reportedly ignoring the weather conditions and natural dangers of the area. Her claims were supported by the National Transportation Safety Board this past February, who ruled that the pilot’s poor judgment caused the crash. This sentiment was reflected in the lawsuit, as it reads:
“As a direct and proximate result of the aforesaid negligence and carelessness on the part of defendant Zobayan, Kobe Bryant was killed.”
The helicopter company, on the other hand, was essentially sued for negligence, as Vanessa Bryant alleged additional measures could and should have been taken to help prevent such a tragedy.
The lawsuit was ultimately settled yesterday (Tuesday, June 22nd), though the specific terms of the settlement weren’t publicly revealed. According to the court documents:
“The material terms of the settlement and releases are known to the settling parties and include that the terms of the settlement are confidential.”
