Mariah Carey Settles $3 Million Lawsuit From 2019 Against Former Assistant Accused Of Blackmail
Mariah Carey can now put some recent legal drama behind her.
As previously reported, Mariah Carey sued ex-assistant Lianna “Azarian” Shakhnazarian back in 2019 for blackmail and a violating an NDA. The former assistant was sued for allegedly recording videos of Mariah Carey in “personal” and “intimate” moments and threatening to release them unless she received financial compensation. Additionally, she was accused of publicly releasing details of Mariah Carey‘s butt injections. The conflict reportedly erupted after Lianna “Azarian” Shakhnazarian was fired back in 2017.
Yesterday (Wednesday, July 7th), Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Andrew Borrok closed out the $3 million lawsuit, reportedly writing “case settled.” No further details have been made public.
Notably, the same judge penalized Lianna “Azarian” Shakhnazarian last year for allegedly destroying evidence. Andrew Borrok determined Azarian destroyed evidence by deleting videos and WhatsApp messages that could have supported Mariah‘s case. Additionally, the ex-assistant was penalized for discarding her cellphone after allegedly spilling water on it. Reportedly, the judge ruled:
“Trading in her cellphone without taking any measures to save the videos, messages, and other data after this lawsuit was filed, when Ms. Shakhnazarian had an undeniable duty to preserve evidence, was grossly negligent, if not intentional. [Her] actions constituted spoliation of critical evidence and severely prejudiced Ms. Carey’s ability to prosecute her case.”
As a result, the former assistant was forced to pay Mariah Carey‘s legal fees. However, she appealed the sanction, though the ruling on the matter is still pending.
