NYC To Require Proof Of COVID-19 Vaccination For Indoor Dining, Concerts & Gyms, Mayor Bill de Blasio Says: If You Want To Participate In Society Fully, You’ve Got To Get Vaccinated
New York City residents will have to begin carrying around their vaccination cards in order to continue utilizing certain establishments.
Earlier today (Tuesday, August 3rd), NYC mayor Bill de Blasio had a news conference where he addressed his plans for tackling the current COVID-19 situation. As you may know, the U.S. has seen rising numbers of COVID-19 infections since the emergence of the delta variant. As a result, Bill de Blasio has decided to address how New York City–the most populous city in the country–will address the matter.
At the conference, Bill de Blasio revealed NYC will soon begin requiring proof of vaccination at certain indoor establishments. He stated:
“It’s time for people to see vaccination as literally necessary to living a good and full and healthy life. Not everyone is going to agree with this, I understand that. But for so many people, this is going to be a lifesaving act, that we are putting a mandate in place that is going to guarantee a much higher level of vaccination in this city. And that is the key to protecting people, and the key to our recovery.”
He also addressed the matter on social media, tweeting:
“If you want to participate in society fully, you’ve got to get vaccinated. It’s time. You’ll need proof of #COVID19 vaccination for indoor dining, indoor gyms, and indoor concerts and performances in New York City. This is a lifesaving mandate to keep our city safe.”

The policy will be enforced starting in mid-September.
