New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo Resigns Amid Sexual Harassment Scandal
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has officially resigned.
He said in a press conference Tuesday (Aug. 10),
“New York tough means New York loving, and I love New York and I love you. And everything I have ever done has been motivated by that love. And I would never want to be unhelpful in any way. And I think that given the circumstances, the best way I can help now is if I step aside and let government get back to governing.”

He will be in office for another 14 days.
His announcement came days after New York Attorney General Letitia James determined he “sexually harassed multiple women”, and subsequently “violated federal and state law.”
Andrew Cuomo faced lots of backlash as a number of current and previous New York state employees accused him of inappropriate conduct such as sexual harassment and even assault.
James said in her press conference last week that he allegedly too part in,
“unwanted groping, kisses, hugging, and making inappropriate comments.”
She added that his alleged actions, “created a hostile work environment for women.”
Now that he is leaving office, Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul will serve the rest of his term through next year. She will be the state’s first-ever female governor.
The sexual harassment claims aren’t the only issues Andrew Cuomo has faced during his recent days as governor. He was also criticized for how he handled the COVID-19 pandemic, such as how his staff provided information regarding deaths in nursing homes.
