Idris Elba Trends As ‘James Bond’ Producer Says Search For Next 007 Will Start In 2022

As Daniel Craig wraps his long-running role as James Bond, the conversation of who will replace him continues.

While names like Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page have been thrown into the mix after the success of the Netflix show’s premiere season, it’s safe to say Idris Elba still remains a fan favorite.

Daniel Craig will take his final bow as James Bond in No Time To Die, which will be released on Oct. 8.

He made his debut in Casino Royale back in 2006 and went on to star in five films.

Fans are eagerly waiting for news on who will take his place. But longtime Bond producer Barbara Broccoli said she isn’t even thinking about the next James Bond until 2022.

She said in a recent interview,

“We want Daniel to have his time of celebration. Next year we’ll start thinking about the future.”

Meanwhile, fans are keeping Idris Elba’s name in the forefront as he trended on Twitter following Broccoli’s remarks, some shutting down claims that the 49-year-old is too old to take on the role. See a few reactions below.

Interestingly enough, Idris Elba also suggested he was “too old” when he denied rumors that he’d be the next Bond in 2016. He first said,

“It’s the wildest rumor in the world. I keep saying that if it were to happen, it would be the will of the nation because there have not been any talks between me and the studios about any of that but everywhere I go people want that to happen.”

He then joked,

“But if I’m really honest, I think I’m too old for that, man. Running around in cars, ladies, martinis, who wants to do that? It sounds terrible”
