Dave Chappelle Says He’s Willing To Speak W/ LGBTQ Netflix Employees Under A Few Conditions Amid Backlash
Dave Chappelle has publicly spoken on the fallout from his Netflix special The Closer, and he’s joking about a potential sit-down with LGBTQ employees at Netflix.
The stand-up was released on the streaming platform last month, and much of the chatter involved criticism over Dave Chappelle’s remarks that were deemed transphobic. Roughly 1,000 Netflix trans employees and their allies held a walkout on Oct. 20 in protest of Netflix standing by the comedian and refusing to pull the special.

Dave Chapelle reportedly kicked off a Nashville show with a “statement” over the weekend. He pulled out a piece of paper and read,
“F*** y’all n***as!”
He laughed about facing so much criticism he even had a hard time reaching rapper DaBaby, who was arguably canceled over the summer for his own controversial remarks against the LGBTQ community.

He followed up by asking, What do you call a Black trans person in America? He answered the question himself with, “A n***a!”
He then joked that his wife was afraid for her safety and said he purchased a handgun that featured a pearl handle, claiming that he was concerned that if he ever had to pull the trigger, the other person’s final words would be, “f****t”.
While he’s making jokes about it, he admitted that many film festivals have pulled out of showing his documentary, which he initially premiered at the Hollywood Bowl. Still, he plans to show the documentary in 10 cities, and also acknowledged Netflix for its support.
As for possibly having a conversation with LGBTQ Netflix workers, he says he has a couple of terms: they have to watch the complete The Closer special, they have to meet at a time and place that he selects, and they have to confess comedian Hannah Gadsby isn’t funny. Gadsby, who identifies as a lesbian, previously slammed Netflix and its CEO Ted Sarandos over Chappelle’s standup.

Chappelle concluded by asking, “Am I canceled, or not?” and the applause suggested he isn’t.
