Dionne Warwick Calls Out Upcoming Whitney Houston Biopic: Leave Her Alone, It’s Time To Let Her Sleep
Dionne Warwick has made her stance against the forthcoming Whitney Houston biopic clear.
While Clive Davis serves as the executive producer and Pat Houston as the producer of the I Wanna Dance With Somebody film, Dionne Warwick isn’t here for it.

When asked in a recent interview if she was involved in the biopic, Dionne Warwick said,
“Not one thing.”
She added,
“I want them to let Whitney rest in peace. Leave her alone. Ten years [since she died] — it’s time to let her sleep.”
She also shared her perspective on Aretha Franklin’s biopic Respect, which was released on Aug. 13.
Speaking on whether she saw the film, Dionne Warwick said she did. But when it came to what she thought, she continued and said,
“I didn’t. I knew Aretha from when we were teenagers, and there was a lot missing.”
She pointed out Aretha Franklin’s musical director H.B. Barnum, drummer Bernard Purdie, and the background singing group Sweet Inspirations (which included Warwick’s aunt Cissy Houston) that often recorded and hit the stage with the late iconic singer were not included in the film.
Warwick added,
“Some filmmakers feel that they’ve got to find something cruddy and ugly in an artist’s life. Why?”
I Wanna Dance With Somebody is scheduled for a Dec. 23, 2022 release.
