Record Executive Veteran Clarence Avant’s Wife Jacqueline, 81, Robbed, Murdered In Home Invasion
Renowned music executive Clarence Avant and his wife Jacqueline Avant were in a terrible situation this morning (Dec. 1).
Clarence Avant’s wife Jacqueline Avant, 81, was just murdered in a home invasion. Their Beverly Hills home was broken into in the early hours of Dec. 1. Beverly Hills PD reportedly received a call around 2:30 AM about a shooting. Jacqueline, who was married to Clarence for 54 years, was already en route to a hospital nearby.
The intruders allegedly stormed the home and fired shots, resulting in Jacqueline’s death.
Clarence, who also goes by the “Godfather of Black Music,” is best known for founding Sussex Records, Inc. in 1969, which signed Bill Withers. An industry veteran, he has also been associated with producer-songwriters Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, R&B singer Alexander O’Neal, and producer Quincy Jones. He was home when the disturbance took place, but his condition is unknown at this time.
Jacqueline had ties to child care and was President of the Neighbors of Watts support group. In addition to this, she was a member of UCLA’s International Student Center where she served on the Board of Directors.
Clarence and Jacqueline shared one daughter together, 53-year-old Nicole Avant, who married Ted Sarandos of Netflix, in 2009. Clarence was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame and was honored with a Netflix documentary titled The Black Godfather. The documentary told the story of his life and career and was released in 2019.
