Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA Sues E-Commerce Stores For Producing Merch With Group’s Logo
RZA sues online stores for profiting off the Wu-Tang Clan logo without permission.
Wu-Tang Clan leader RZA is filing a $2 million lawsuit against several online shops for producing merchandise with the legendary rap group’s logo. According to Complex, the companies are likely based in China, and RZA reportedly claims that they’ve been falsely presenting themselves as the Wu-Tang brand to appear authentic. He’s suing them for trademark infringement, counterfeiting, and false designation of origin.
The court documents state:
“Many defendants also deceive unknowing consumers by using the Wu-Tang Clan Trademarks without authorization within the content, text, and/or meta tags of their e-commerce stores to attract various search engines crawling the Internet looking for e-commerce stores relevant to consumer searches for Wu-Tang Clan products,”
They continue:
“Other e-commerce stores operating under the Seller Aliases omit using the Wu-Tang Clan Trademarks in the item title to evade enforcement efforts while using strategic item titles and descriptions that will trigger their listings when consumers are searching for Wu-Tang Clan products.”
Ultimately, the rap icon wants the bootleg companies to cease production. He also wants to bar websites such as Amazon, eBay, and AliExpress from promoting these counterfeit products.

In 2017, RZA filed a copyright infringement suit against a dog-walking business. The company was named the “Woof-Tang Clan” sold T-shirts with references to the group’s music. At the time, RZA stated that the logo was “unmistakably associated” with the group. The website is still running and its Instagram page is active, but there are no signs of a Wu-Tang logo.
