Serena Williams has entered the match.
The star tennis player and motorsports racing driver Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time Formula One world champion, have joined businessman Martin Broughton‘s bid to buy the Chelsea Football Club. They’ve reportedly pledged an estimated 10 million pounds ($13.06 million) each.
A spokesperson for Lewis Hamilton told the Guardian that
“We can confirm Lewis has joined Sir Martin Broughton’s bid.”
Roman Abramovich, a Russian businessman and Chelsea owner, revealed on March 2 that he was selling the club. Roman Abramovich said he felt it was “in the best interest of the Club, the fans, the employees, as well as the Club’s sponsors and partners” to make the move as a result of British government sanctions put on him following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
In a statement, he said,
“In the current situation, I have therefore taken the decision to sell the club, as I believe this is in the best interest of the club, the fans, the employees, as well as the club’s sponsors and partners.”
He added,
“The sale of the club will not be fast-tracked but will follow due process. I will not be asking for any loans to be repaid. This has never been about business nor money for me, but about pure passion for the game and club.”
Chelsea Football Club (F.C.) is a professional football (soccer) team based in London, England. A member of the Premier League, it is one of the world’s richest, biggest and most-supported clubs, complete with star players and a highly offensive style of play.
