Dave Chappelle ‘Attacker’ Charged W/ Attempted Murder For Allegedly Stabbing Roommate Last Year

Some disturbing details have surfaced surrounding Dave Chappelle’s attacker.

Isaiah Lee, 23,–the man accused of attacking comedian Dave Chappelle, 48, on stage during a comedy show earlier this month – has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly stabbing his roommate in December.

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Isaiah Lee was caught on Thursday (May 19) in connection to a fight with his roommate at a transitional housing facility on December 2. Reportedly, Lee pleaded not guilty to one count of attempted murder over the violent incident. According to the DA’s office, the alleged victim identified Isaiah Lee as his attacker after the suspect gained significant media attention following the on-stage confrontation with Dave Chappelle earlier this month.

District Attorney George Gascón said in a statement:

“The publicity generated by the attack on Mr. Chappelle helped police solve this crime. The incident that occurred at the Hollywood Bowl was misdemeanor conduct and rightfully referred to the City Attorney’s Office. Based on the nature and severity of the December attack, Mr. Lee is now facing felony charges which my office will prosecute.”

As previously reported, Dave Chappelle was performing at the Hollywood Bowl on May 3 as part of the Netflix Is a Joke comedy festival, when a man ran up on stage and tackled him. The man then ran back stage, where security quickly tackled him.

Reportedly, the attacker was carrying a plastic replica gun containing a knife. The man was removed in an ambulance with a broken arm and swollen face after security subdued him. Police arrested the suspect hours later for assault with a deadly weapon. According to Isaiah Lee’s brother, he is homeless and struggles with mental illness.

An arrest has been made in an incident where a comedian was attacked while on stage at the Hollywood Bowl. Isaiah Lee was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon and bail is set at $30,000.

Isaiah Lee was initially charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon, however, his charges were downgraded to four misdemeanors, including: battery, possessing a deadly weapon with intent to assault, unauthorized access to the stage area during a performance and commission of an act that delays the event or interferes with the performer. He appeared in court last week (May 10) for a bail review hearing at which the judge denied a request to have Lee’s bail reduced. He will remain in jail with bail set at $30,000.

Isaiah Lee’s s pretrial date for the Dave Chappelle incident is set for Friday (May 20). He is scheduled to make his next court appearance regarding the attempted murder on June 2.
