Uvalde Mayor Announces Robb Elementary School Will Be Demolished: We Could Never Ask A Child To Go Back Or A Teacher To Go Back Into That School
Robb Elementary School has been set to be torn down.
On Tuesday night (June 21) the mayor of Uvalde, Texas, Don McLaughlin announced Robb Elementary School will be demolished after the recent mass shooting that left 19 students and two teachers dead.
Don McLaughlin stated:
“My understanding — I had a discussion with the superintendent — that school will be demolished. We could never ask a child to go back, or a teacher to go back into that school ever.”
The Department of Public Safety Director, Steve McCraw, stated that authorities could have stopped the gunman if the commander wasn’t hesitant to shoot. Steve McCraw described law enforcement’s response to be an “abject failure,” and said the shooter could’ve been stopped within three minutes of the incident.
Steve McCraw explained:
“The officers had weapons; the children had none. The officers had body armor; the children had none. The officers had training; the subject had none. One hour, 14 minutes and eight seconds. That’s how long children waited, and the teachers waited, in Room 111 to be rescued.”
McCraw added:
“I don’t mean to be hyper-critical of the on-scene commander, but those are the facts. This set our profession back a decade.”
As previously reported, On Tuesday (May 24) Salvador Ramos, 18, drove to Robb Elementary School and barricaded himself inside a fourth-grade classroom using an AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle, opening fire, killing two teachers, and 19 children. Salvador Ramos was eventually killed on the scene by law enforcement officers.
