Charles Barkley Donates $1 Million To Spelman College
NBA legend Charles Barkley has pledged to donate $1 million to Spelman College, making it the sixth major donation that he has made to a Black college since 2016.
Former basketball star Charles Barkley, 59, announced this past week that he is making the generous donation to Spelman. The announcement comes after Charles Barkley witnessed the impact the Atlanta-based historically Black women’s college has made on Jordyn Hudson, the daughter of his business partner, John Hudson.

Due to Jordyn Hudson’s growing success at the HBCU institution, the former NBA superstar has made the decision to gift the college with funds that will go toward empowering the next generation of leaders. According to reports, Barkley shared:
“John has been a great mentor, a great friend and a great business partner. I was ready to do another HBCU and with his daughter doing great things at Spelman, so I told him, ‘Why not there?’”
Jordyn Hudson has been making strides at Spelman and will be the president of Spelman’s sophomore class in the upcoming fall semester. She is also the producer of “Shape the Culture: Then & Now,” a documentary that focuses on how activists of the 1960s are connected with today’s youth activists.
In addition to Spelman College, Barkley, an Alabama native, has reportedly gifted $1 million each to Alabama A&M, Miles College, and Tuskegee University. In 2016, the television analyst pledged $1 million to Clark Atlanta University, followed by a 2017 pledge to Morehouse College for $1 million.
