Jay-Z Faces Backlash After Seemingly Suggesting That ‘Capitalist’ Is Just Another Invented Term To Lock Out Hip-Hop Moguls: Y’all Gotta Come Up With Stronger Words

Well, it looks like a lot of people are now opting to take the 500K instead of dinner with Jay-Z after his recent comments about capitalism.

Yesterday, DJ Khaled hosted a space on Twitter in honor of his new album, GOD DID, and Jay-Z was one of the industry heavy-hitters in attendance.

During the virtual conversation, co-host Jay-Z spoke on the state of Hip-Hop, and in doing so, he brought up the word “capitalist.” The term, which is often viewed as anti-Black, describes an affluent individual who uses their finances to invest in the principles of capitalism.

According to the “99 Problems” legend, music artists are no longer succumbing to America’s lies and the ideology of those rising above them. Jay-Z shared,

“Hip-Hop is young; we still growing, and we not falling for that tricknology [or] whatever, you know, this public puts out there now. You know, before, [it] was the American dream. ‘Pull your self out of bootstraps and you can make it in America.’ All these lies that America told us our whole life. And then when we starting getting in, they try to lock us out of it. They start inventing words like, you know, ‘capitalist,’ and, you know, things like that. I mean, you know, we been called n*gga and monkeys and sh*t. I don’t care! Those words y’all come up with, y’all gotta come with stronger words.”

He continued by assuring that the genre and the people within it are here to stay–no matter what the circumstances may be.

“We not gon’ stop; we not gon’ be tricked out of our position! Y’all locked us out; y’all created a system that doesn’t include us. We said, ‘Fine.’ We went our alternate route, we created this music, we did our thing. You know, we hustled, we f*cking killed ourselves to get to this space. And, you know, now it’s like, you know, ‘Eat the rich.'” 

Following Jay-Z’s take on capitalism, Rob Markman, who was also one of the speakers in the digital room, posted the clip to his Twitter account, which has now gone viral.
