Seth Rogen Says A Lot Of Politicians He Speaks To Don’t Seem To Understand When He Tells Them Racism Is The Reason Weed Is Illegal: It Drives Me Insane & It Truly Is Illogical
Seth Rogen says politicians who won’t accept that weed is illegal because of racism are infuriating.
Seth Rogen has long established himself as one of the true weed enthusiasts in Hollywood. Since the success of his early stoner flicks like Superbad and Pineapple Express, Seth Rogen has become more vocal about issues surrounding the plant. From lobbying to expunge convictions for cannabis-related offenses to pressing senators for legalization, Rogen continues to be a trooper for the cause.
On a recent episode of 360 with Speedy Morman, the Canadian-American actor shared his views on certain outdated policies surrounding weed.
The interview took place at the headquarters for Rogen’s own cannabis brand, Houseplant, and host Speedy Morman quickly segued into the actor’s work with weed. When Speedy Mormon asked how Rogen felt about being legally able to sell and profit from weed while several Black and Brown people remain incarcerated for their involvement with marijuana, the Guilt Trip actor said:
”It shows the terrible state of the laws and legal system in America. It makes me feel a great responsibility to constantly talk about it and acknowledge it, and we financially support a lot of expungement organizations directly. I was literally screaming at Chuck Schumer last week about how they have to do much, much more to progress this agenda and to acknowledge that it’s 100% racist. That’s the only reason weed is illegal, period, because of racism, and what I’ve found, I think even a lot of politicians who consider themselves to be progressive simply don’t understand that fact.”
Rogen continued:
“They simply don’t understand that everything that they have digested about weed and all their beliefs about weed are based on the lies of racist men and it simply is how it is. I’ve seen it on their faces when you start to explain it to them.”

Seth Rogen
He then shared how others can become educated on the topic and help move the conversation forward:
“Go read about Harry Anslinger. Go look up how the war on drugs was specifically using weed to imprison people. If you take something that pretty much everyone does and you make it illegal and only arrest one small group of people for doing that thing, it becomes a very effective tool.”
Rogen added:
“It’s not based on science, it’s much healthier than alcohol so there’s a massive logic gap there that’s infuriating. It drives me insane and it truly is illogical.”
Though progress on the matter seems slow, President Biden recently made an encouraging announcement.
On October 6, President Biden reportedly announced that he will pardon all individuals convicted on federal marijuana possession charges, a move that will affect more than 6,500 people.
