Safaree Samuels – Childhood Friend Behind Entertainer’s Robbery Sentenced To 18 Years In Prison
Safaree Samuels is finally getting justice for a scary incident he faced a few years ago.
According to reports, Shawn Harewood, a man who grew up with rapper/reality star Safaree Samuels and allegedly masterminded his 2018 robbery, was sentenced to 18 years behind bars on November 3. While the “Love & Hip-Hop” star has not made an official statement since the final judgment, he must be breathing a sigh of relief considering his initial reaction to the violation.
In 2018, Safaree Samuels was in the parking lot of his luxury apartment complex in Fort Lee when he was overtaken by two men, Carl Harry and Tacuma Ashman. The men reportedly held Safaree Samuels at gunpoint and swiped $180,000 worth of jewelry. A couple of hours after the terrifying ordeal, a shaken-up Safaree Samuels tearfully spoke about it with Power 105.1’s Angie Martinez. He revealed,
“I just got robbed. Two dudes with guns ran up to me, had me face down on the floor with a gun to my head.”
Thankfully, the incident was caught by security cameras and three arrests were eventually made. A seven-count indictment was handed down including armed robbery in the first degree, unlawful possession of a gun in the second degree, and one count of resisting arrest after crashing their car and fleeing on foot.
In 2019, Carl Harry struck a deal with prosecutors by pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit theft. He received a sentence of 364 days in the Bergen County Jail, with five years probation after that. Tacuma Ashman wasn’t as lucky and earlier this year, after choosing to go to trial, he was ultimately sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Harewood, who reportedly recruited the other two men, received his punishment last. He was found guilty of robbery, eluding arrest, and resisting arrest. He was sentenced to 10 years for the eluding charge, and eight years for the robbery charge. Harewood, however, was acquitted of conspiracy to commit robbery and charges related to weapons. In addition, he was found “not guilty” of the attempted robbery of Safaree’s companion.
Before he was taken away, Harewood stood before the court and apologized to “all involved” who were impacted by his “bad decisions. He reportedly never mentioned Safaree in the statement.
He instead shared,
“These moments do not define me, and they’re not reflective of me.”
