EXCLUSIVE: HBO Max Not Renewing Issa Rae’s Reality Series ‘Sweet Life: Los Angeles,’ Team Finding Another Home

theJasmineBRAND exclusively reports that HBO Max’s reality series “Sweet Life: Los Angeles” will not be returning for another season.

The popular series, which was created by Issa Rae, centers around a close group of Black friends in their 20s/early 30s, living in South Los Angeles as they strive for Black excellence. The show initially premiered on August 19, 2021, and its second season dropped this year on August 4.

It’s unclear if the cast is aware that the show will reportedly not return. But Tylynn Burns, a main cast member of the series, recently shared a video on TikTok letting fans know there won’t be a reunion special for season 2. She captioned the post,

In the comment section, when a fan asked if she can confirm season 3, the event planner replied,

“LMAO booookaaaa”

According to our sources, the cancellation is due to HBO Max and Discovery Plus’ expected merger. Sources also tell us that while the show has run its course at HBO Max,

“the team is finding another home for it.”

As previously reported, by the summer of 2023, HBO Max and Discovery+ will merge into a new streaming service. Even though the new joint platform is expected to have some content consisting of what’s already on the two existing streaming services, it’s important to note that a lot of programs won’t make the cut and will reportedly not be renewed before the date of the official merge.

When asked by another fan if the merger is the reason there’s no reunion special for season two, Tylynn Burns commented with the target emoji, alluding that the fan is correct.

In addition, HBO Max’s parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, has fully removed content from its platform. This reportedly includes six streaming-only movies from HBO Max such as Seth Rogen’s “An American Pickle” and Melissa McCarthy’s “Superintelligence.” Warner also recently canceled the release of “Batgirl,” a project that had already been shot and was in post-production.
