‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Tops Box Office Charts For Fifth Consecutive Weekend

At the moment, no other movie stands a chance in a box office competition against  “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” 

According to reports, the Marvel film has held the No. 1 spot in North America for five consecutive weeks, adding $11.1 million from 3,725 theaters over the weekend and shooting its domestic total to $409 million.

“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” which premiered on Friday (Nov. 11) is now the third film in 2022 to cross the $400 million mark domestically.

It’s also the first film since 2018’s “Black Panther” to stay number one on the box office charts for five weekends straight. As you may already know, the popular sequel sheds light on the obstacles the nation of Wakanda faces since T’Challa, portrayed by the late actor Chadwick Boseman, died.

As previously reported, Chadwick Boseman passed away on August 28, 2020, after a four-year silent battle with stage IV colon cancer. Globally, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” has produced $767.8 million, making it the sixth-highest-grossing movie of the year.

Paul Dergarabedian, a senior analyst at Comscore, believes the second installment in Marvel’s “Black Panther” franchise hinders the success of other films in the industry. Paul Dergarabedian said:

“A five-week stand at the top of box office charts — while great for ‘Wakanda Forever’ — is not a formula for ongoing success for the industry.” 

Paul Dergarabedian added:

“This has placed enormous pressure on ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ to deliver big when it opens later this week. A lack of consistent crowd-pleasers has made for an uncharacteristically slow holiday season.”
