Golden Globes Slammed By Mother Of One Of Jeffrey Dahmer’s Victims Over Evan Peters ‘Best Actor’ Win: It Keeps The Obsession Going
Families victimized by serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer were less than happy with the Golden Globes.
Reportedly, the mother of one of the murderer’s victims shared her disappointment about Evan Peters winning the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series for his portrayal of Dahmer in the Netflix series “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.”

Following the awards show, held on Tuesday (January 10th), Shirley – the mother of a Dahmer victim named Tony Hughs, reportedly stated:
“There’s a lot of sick people around the world, and people winning acting roles from playing killers keeps the obsession going and this makes sick people thrive on the fame.”

Tony Hughes
Hughes was one of the few victims whose life was portrayed in the miniseries released last year. As you may already know, “Dahmer – Monster” depicts how the serial killer’s life, and how the tragic story of his many victims, came to be. Shirley also reportedly called out Peters for not using the moment to highlight families still traumatized by Dahmer’s killing spree, stating:
“Evan should have used his acceptance speech to mention the families who are still suffering from Dahmer’s crimes, or to say Hollywood should put an end to telling stories about killers and glorifying them.”
If you’re unfamiliar with the story, Jeffrey Dahmer was a serial killer and sex offender who target Black and brown gay men from the late 70s to the early 90s. Nicknamed the “Milwaukee Cannibal” or the “Milwaukee Monster,” Dahmer regularly performed heinous crimes. He’s reportedly dismembered at least 17 men and boys and performed disturbing experiments on them. Eventually, the killer was convicted of 16 counts of murder and was sentenced to 16 life terms in prison. However, Dahmer was killed by a fellow inmate just two years after.

Other families of Dahmer’s victims previously spoke out after the latest Netflix series on his life premiered. Just as Shirley recently stated, the loved ones claim the series only continues to re-traumatize them over and over. Speaking on the Golden Globes/Peters win, Shirley stated:
“It’s a shame that people can take our tragedy and make money. The victims never saw a cent. We go through these emotions every day.”

Peters did share his hope that “something good” comes of his win and the series during the acceptance speech, adding it was a hard role to take. However, Shirley reportedly doesn’t believe it will. The mother reportedly stated Peters should’ve declined out of respect for the victims’ families.
