Tyre Nichols’ Stepdad Denies Rumor That Tyre Had Affair w/ Wife Of One Of The Officers Responsible For His Death
According to Tyre Nichols‘ stepdad, Tyre was not having an affair with the wife of one of the Memphis police officers accused of his murder.
Tyre Nichols‘ stepdad, Rodney Wells spoke at a prayer vigil in Memphis Monday night (Jan.30) where he denied the rumor. The vigil took place outside of his home, just yards from where his 29-year-old stepson was brutally beaten by police.
Wells said,
“My son was not messing around with one of the officer’s wives. That’s just a rumor.”
He continued,
“Police tried to cover it up. They [are] still trying to spread rumors about my son that are not true.”
According to reports, a rumor surfaced on the internet that Tyre Nichols worked at FedEx in Memphis with one of the officer’s wives and had a relationship with the woman. Allegedly, the (made-up) affair is why police officers were out for revenge. However, according to Rodney Wells, the rumor isn’t true.
As previously reported, on January 7, Tyre Nichols was stopped by the police for allegedly driving recklessly, and the confrontation turned violent and deadly. Nichols was taken to the hospital in severe condition after the incident and passed away three days later on January 10.

Five police officers who were fired for their alleged roles in the beating death of Tyre Nichols were booked into Memphis‘ Shelby County Jail on Jan. 26. The officers reportedly responsible for the incident have since been identified as Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmit Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr., and Justin Smith.
Reportedly, court records show that the men each face two counts of official misconduct, one count of official oppression, one count of second-degree murder, one count of aggravated assault, and two counts of aggravated kidnapping.

Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn “C.J.” Davis described the assault Nichols endured as “heinous, reckless, and inhumane” as she prepared the public for the release of bodycam footage showing his arrest. She said,
“This is not just a professional failing. This is a failing of basic humanity toward another individual. They failed our community, and they failed the Nichols family. That is beyond regrettable.”
