R. Kelly’s Legal Team Claims Government Is Obsessed w/ ‘Ensuring He Dies In Prison’ While Elvis Presley Was Given A Pass For ‘Sexually Abusing Underage Women’

R. Kelly’s attorneys are fighting to reduce his time in prison, seemingly by any means necessary.

According to Chicago Tribune reporter Jason Meisner, R. Kelly’s lawyers have requested the singer be given an 11-year prison sentence for his Chicago federal conviction, which stems from Kelly’s sexual abuse of teenage girls decades ago. Early Friday (Feb 10) morning Meisner shared in a tweet:

“Lawyers for #RKelly ask for sentence of about 11 years in prison for his Chicago federal conviction stemming from the sexual abuse of teen girls decades ago, served concurrently with the 30-year term in NYC. He’s set to be sentenced Feb. 23”

Minutes later Meisner provided an update and said Kelly’s lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean, accused the government of having a personal vendetta against the entertainer. Reportedly, Bonjean argued that the potential time Kelly is facing for his crimes is unfair due to white celebrities getting a pass for their sexual abuse misconduct. Bonjean used the late Elvis Presley as an example, claiming he had a history of abusing minors.

Meisner tweeted,

“Attorney Jennifer Bonjean wrote the government’s “obsession with ensuring that Kelly dies in prison” is troubling given that other famous and mostly white musicians — including Elvis Presley — were given a pass despite “credible histories of sexually abusing underage women.”

Reportedly, the King of Rock and Roll dated women as young as 14 while he was an adult. Elvis Presley allegedly kept a group of three 14-year-old girls with him while touring. As you may recall, Presley ultimately died at the age of 42 on a toilet in Graceland.

As previously reported, Last month Chicago prosecutor Kim Foxx announced her decision to drop the sex-abuse charges against the singer following federal convictions in two courts that should guarantee R. Kelly spends decades behind bars. Despite the charges being dropped, Attorney Jennifer Bonjean previously said this isn’t “relief” for Kelly.:

“There is no real sense of relief. He is still fighting for his life. He is facing decades in prison.”

In a separate statement, before noting that Kim Foxx made “the right move” with her decision, she added:

“He only has one life to give. So I don’t know how many sentences upon sentences would satisfy people.”  

As previously reported, on June 29, 2022, the “Step In The Name Of Love” singer was sentenced to 30 years in prison after a Brooklyn, New York jury found him guilty on all counts of racketeering and sex trafficking. He was also ordered to receive mental health treatment upon his release along with mandatory therapy sessions for a sexual disorder.
